Survival Guide and Phrase Book

Bars and bar/go-go girls

Go-go bars generally have their own designated, neon lit areas. In Bangkok, there are 3 main ones:
Pat pong, rip-off ping pong shows, go-go bars and some music bars. It also has a night market that attracts many tourists.
Nana Plaza, popular with Japanese and very busy.
Soi Cowboy, less busy and more ex-pat oriented.

Outside of these areas you will rarely see ‘bar girls’. Less than 2% of Thai people work in this type of trade. Please treat everyone with respect and good manners.

Massage: The massage parlours with ‘extras’ are again, found in big neon lit areas, not to be confused with the traditional Thai and foot massage shops, great value at about 200 baht for 1 hour. Avoid big hotels and expensive resorts – they can charge 1000 up for the same massage. Try a blind massage for something different.
